What is it? Is the most common question I hear asked about
our truck. It is a Pinzgauer 710M. Pinzgauers are made by Styer-Puch in
Austria. They are made mostly for Military applications but some also have
been made for custom industrial applications. We picked the Pinz because
it has the same approximate length, width and weight specs as a Jeep
Cherokee sport and we needed a SUV that could handle a family of five plus
gear. I think it is much more fun to drive then a Jeep. It is a very
capable off road vehicle!!
Our truck is Swiss Army surplus as are the majority of Pinzies imported
into the US. Due to DOT regulations the trucks must be 25 years or older
to import them into the US and ours is a 1974.
The 710M chassis/body style indicates our truck is a 4-wheel drive
10-man troop carrier (716M is a 6 wheel drive 14 man troop carrier). I
like to think of it as a minivan from the land of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
We purchased our Pinz from Cold
War Remarketing in Colorado. Patrick Robb is the owner and he has a
really nice website.
